Bathroom Cabinet Installation Cost: Vanities, Linen Cabinets and More
A new vanity changes a bathroom more than almost anything else for the money. Here is what bathroom cabinet installation usually costs, and what to ask before you get a quote.
Typical bathroom cabinet installation cost
- Replacing a vanity: This Old House reports $665 to $3,300, with an average near $1,983, including removing the old unit, the plumbing hookup and setting the new cabinet and top.
- Installation on top of a custom vanity: roughly $200 to $1,000, depending on size and plumbing.
- Large custom vanities: double vanities with stone tops, tower cabinets or linen cabinets sit at the top of the range.
What adds to the price
- Moving plumbing. If the drain or supply lines have to move to fit the new layout, a plumber is part of the job.
- Wall-mounted vanities. Floating units need blocking in the wall to carry the weight, which means opening the wall.
- The top. Quartz, marble and undermount sinks cost more than a one-piece vanity top.
- Matching storage. A linen cabinet, medicine cabinet or open shelves built in the same finish add pieces, and install time.
When a custom vanity makes sense
Stock vanities come in fixed widths. When the space is between sizes, sits under a sloped ceiling, or needs drawers around the plumbing instead of an empty sink base, a vanity built to the room uses every inch. It also lets the bathroom match the kitchen or the rest of the house.
We build vanities and linen cabinets in our Mashpee shop and install them with our own team. Take a look at our kitchen and bath cabinet installation and custom cabinets pages.
